• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Roster picture becomes a little bit clearer

Bleacherbum at Fanhome has the inside scoop on the rosters, with some interesting developments.

  1. The Swing of the Quad Cities are going to start with an 8 man (!) rotation. Guh?
  2. Amaury Marti has been loaned to a Mexican League team. I guess that makes the outfield situation a little less cluttered. Of course, he still remains under team control.

No Palm Beach roster yet, but some of the blanks aren’t too hard to fill in:

I’d guess the rotation would be:

Gary Daley
Eddie Degerman
Trey Hearne
Adam Daniels
Adam Ottavino
Tyler Norrick

And the pen would be:

Jason Motte
Luke Gregorson
Nick Webber
Fernando Salas
Donnie Smith
amongst others

And around the horn would be:
C-David Carpenter (?)
1B-Mark Hamilton
2B-Jose Martinez
SS-Allen Craig
3B-Dan Nelson (?)
LF-Shane Robinson
CF-Nathan Southard
RF-AJ Van Slyke
DH-Mike Ferris

I’m probably missing something, somewhere. Roth was reassigned to PB and apparently isn’t taking it well. IE, he’s considering quitting baseball. [edit] Degerman is going to have an extended spring to work on his control. As Jason Scott of scout.com mentioned in the comments, the rosters are at the Birdhouse, here’s the link. Thanks Jason!

  1. Eric - Couple of additional updates from this evening - In addition to Amaury Marti going to Mexico, P Chris Russ is also going to the same team (per Mike Lindskog of the SPR. Cardinals).

Also, Mike is reporting that OF Cody Haerther, P Stuart Pomeranz and P Eric Haberer will start the season on Springfield’s DL.

At Memphis, Kyle Parkinson told me that Eli Marrero will start on the DL there and that Memphis must make 1 more move to get down to 24.

Still no word on Palm Beach’s roster.

  2. eddie degerman is staying in extended spring training. my guess for the palm beach rotation is ottavino, daley, norrick, hearne, daniels.

i would also think robinson will play center b/c he is a very good defensive centerfielder and i have heard southard is not so good. robinson played center in quad cities last year over jon jay and daryl jones, so i would think he is the primary centerfielder on that team.

  3. Per Kary Booher in his blog the Springfield News-Leader website, Cardinals Corner, Memphis has finalized its roster by moving 1B/3B Rico Washington down to the Springfield Cardinals team. That move finalizes the roster of both teams.

  4. I was hoping Roth would open with Springfield, but it seems he’s going to end up as one of those organization guys if he isn’t promoted quickly. Other than that I like the S-Cards roster, although I think we could stand to be a little less aggressive with Anderson.

I’m guessing Dickson, Garceau and Schellinger will have short leashes with that QC rotation jam.

  5. Also I wonder if Mark Michael, Christian Reyes, Ian Church and Mark Shorey will factor into the Palm Beach Roster. I also guess that Tommy Pham and Jon Edwards won’t be skipping Low-A and instead are staying back. Interesting…

  6. All four of the finalized rosters are posted at The Birdhouse. Just click on the minor league rosters drop-down tab towards the top of the page.

  7. What about Tommy Pham? I am bit intrigued by him.

  8. Surprising that catcher and international man of mystery, Omar Falcon, will be taking a step backwards to Quad Cities.

Good to see so many players moved aggressively to AA.

  9. Good stuff, Erik. I don’t blame Roth (.852 minor-league OPS) for being upset if Joe Mather (.743) got the promotion ahead of him.

  10. Actually I don’t see Roth at all on the scout.com rosters… what’s ailing him?

  11. Erik - John Vuch, the Director of Minor League Operations for the Cards was kind enough to send me the projected opening day rosters for the Cards top 4 minor league clubs. In addition, he included those who were staying at extended spring training and a list of players starting out on the DL.

You can access all the info at the following FanHome.com link and it won’t cost you a cent - http://www.fanhome.com/forums/st-louis-cardinals/3179-2007-team-rosters-transactions-updated-04-04-07-a.html

  12. Mateodh- FYI, Mark Michael was released by the Cards this past month.

Ian Church - on the DL at Palm Beach

Mark Shorey is starting at Quad Cities.

Christian Reyes, Tommy Pham and Jon Edwards are all remaining back at Extended Spring Training Camp.

  13. What about Cody Haerther? Is he still in the organization.

  14. Haerther is on the DL. Roth is pouting about being demoted and is contemplating retirement.
