• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 4/14/07

Springfield had both of their games canceled today due to “snow and wintry conditions”. It’s flippin’ April and it’s still nasty cold out. I keep waiting for Springfield to get some games in because that’s were the Cardinals minor league talent is most abundant, in my opinion. Colby Rasmus, Bryan Anderson, Jamie Garcia, Jon Jay . . . and I’m denied getting info on them another day! <grumbing incoherently> stupid weather </grumbling incoherently>

Memphis 2, Oklahoma 5

The Good

  • Not very much. . .
  • Rick Ankiel goes deep for the third time in 31 at bats. (See the Rick Ankiel Watch on the sidebar for the latest on Rick).

The Bad

  • Brendan Ryan goes 0-for-4. Ryan is now 0-for-13 in the last three games.
  • Ryan Ludwick recorded the only other hit for Memphis — just before Ankiel hit his homerun.
  • In fairness, JRod wasn’t very good tonight (and as much as I prop him up he does have his flaws) going 0-for-3 with a BB and a K.
  • Matt Ginter was ok until the 7th when he gave up another 2 runs. He was pretty mediocre for the better part of the night — which is what you would expect from a AAA roster filler.
  • Mike Sillman gives up a run in an inning of relief.

Palm Beach 10, Vero Beach 2

The Good

Day two of the Battle of the Beaches finds Palm Beach laying the smack down on Vero Beach.

The Bad

  • Dan Nelson’s infield defensive woes continue from last year as he commits an error.
  • Mike Ferris goes 0-for-5.
  • A.J. Van Slyke goes 1-for-4 with 3Ks and gets picked off first.

Quad Cities 5, Kane County 3

The Good

  • Isaias Garcia goes 2-for-4 with a double as the DH.
  • Daryl Jones goes 0-for-1 but draws 3 walks giving him a .371 OBP despite a .185 AVG thus far this season. Jones is one to watch although he’s probably 2-3 years away. He’s going to turn 20 this year playing in Quad Cities after mashing in Johnson City early last year. His brief debut in QC last year was less than stellar but at 19 he’s got a high ceiling that isn’t found in many of the other Cardinal farmhands.
  • Every member of the QC offense reached base at least once for 17 total baserunners on the day.

The Bad

  • Despite allowing only 3 runs (2 earned), the QC pitchers allowed 16 baserunners in 9 innings; that’s playing with fire to the tune of a 1.778 WHIP.
  • Jones gets caught stealing and picked off first base.
  • The offense strands 7 on base (Kane County left 11).

  1. Buried in the Palm Beach boxscore is this nice little tidbit on Adam Daniels and his effort on Saturday. 12-1 (ground outs to flyouts). Cards brass got to be loving that #. Hope he can keep that type of effort coming in future games.
