Per the Post-Dispatch:
Relief pitcher Dennis Dove has been promoted from Class AAA Memphis to the Cardinals after Josh Hancock was killed Sunday in an automobile crash in St. Louis.
Dove, 25, had an impressive spring in the Cardinals’ camp and was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA in nine appearances for Memphis.
He will be in a major-league uniform for the first time tonight when the Cardinals play at Milwaukee.
“To lose a guy like that, it hurts,” Dove told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “Josh was a good guy, nice to everybody.”
Of his promotion to the majors, Dove told the newspaper: “I hate that it happened this way. It’s a dream come true, pretty much. To say it wasn’t, I’d be lying. It’s awesome. … But it’s also a very sad day for all of us.”
I’m pretty sure Dove would’ve made it to the majors anyway. This has to be a day of mixed emotions for him to say the very least. I thought Dove would be the logical choice, he lasted in camp longer the most for a good reason. Not many guys can throw a 97 MPH sinker, Dove can and does. He also has a slurvy breaking ball and will seldom throw a change up. Dove has been a favorite prospect of mine and while I hate to see him here under these circumstances, what I’ve read of Dove’s character he should handle it with respect and competitiveness.
DanUp’s thoughts on the job Dove has ahead of him is put together far better then what I could come up with during this sad and tragic time. It’s well worth the read.

I agree, danup’s article about hancock/dove was the best I’ve seen. A tremendous piece that said it all, I think. I hope Dove reads it before he takes the field.
It looks like Chris Lambert (0-2, 3.45 in 5 starts) will be promoted to memphis to replace Sillman, who went to the DL today; Hugo Castellanos will be replacing Dove. Jason Motte (the catcher turned pitcher) will be moving up to springfield. Motte had 160 assists in 181 games as a catacher- wow.
