• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 5/3/07

5 games to cover tonight as Springfield makes up one of its many future double headers after all the rainouts and cold weather delays.

Memphis 2, Omaha 7

  • Brendan Ryan went 2-for-5.
  • The offense had zero extra base hits on the night.
  • Ankiel stole his first base of the season while going 1-for-3 with a walk. If Rick can get his walk rate up he could be a fine major leaguer. The power is there.
  • Kiesler went 6.1 IP allowing 6 runs. I’ll be surprised if he gets any more starts for the big league club this year.

Springfield 7, Wichita 5 (Game 1)

  • Jon Jay goes 2-for-5 with a triple.
  • Colby Rasmus goes 1-for-3 with a HR and BB.
  • Joe Mather goes 2-for-4 and hits his 11th home run of the season.
  • Juan Encarnacion goes 0-for-3 with a BB. (He’s hitting a pitiful .091)
  • Chris Perez strikes out 3 in 1.1 innings for the save.

Springfield 5, Wichita 6 (Game 2)

  • Another triple for Jay.
  • Rasmus goes 3-for-4 with a HR and a double. He also stole his 3rd base of the season.
  • Mather goes 0-for-3.
  • Mike Ferris goes 0-for-3 and has his average down to .125 on the season.
  • Kevin Ool was sabotaged by errors as he allowed 5 runs (2 earned) in 4.1 innings pitched.

Palm Beach 5, Brevard County 1

  • Allen Craig goes 1-for-1 with 4(!) walks. Despite reaching base 5 times, Craig only scored once. Part of the reason was. . .
  • . . .Palm Beach failed to record an extra base hit, relying on timely hitting instead.3
  • Adam Ottavino puts up a pretty line on the night: 5IP, 4H, 3BB, 6Ks and 1 ER. He also recored all 9 of his non-strikeouts on groundballs.

Quad Cities 3, Great Lakes 0

  • Brandon Buckman continues to hit going 2-for-4 with a HR.
  • Daryl Jones goes 1-for-4 with 2Ks. I’m still waiting for those tools to translate into stats.
  • The pitching was stellar for QC. P.J. Walters throws 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 1BB and 7 Ks. He recorded 6 outs on the ground and one in the air. Elvis Hernandez throws three relief innings allowing 3 BBs 1 hit and striking out 5. Kenneth Maiques shuts the door for his 6th save with 1 IP and a K. That’s a combined 9 IP, 6 hits, 4 BBs, 13 Ks. Not to mention a 10-3 ground to air out ratio.

  1. Colby starting to heat up? I have him down as 6 for 11 in the last three games with two round trippers, two doubles, and two stolen bases.

That’s a pretty nice three game stand.

  2. no insight or anything, just an extremely hearty “keep up the good work!” you gentlemen are a very bright spot on my reading list.

any further insight on amaury? his numbers seem to warrant attention. you know, i heard that he never actually makes contact with the ball. when he swings, the ball is in such a panic that it gets out of the way, often clearing the fence in its terror. the crack that sounds like contact? that’s also what it sounds like when a ball poops in its pants.

  3. BJ-For more insight on Marti, see the previous post http://futureredbirds.com/2007/01/02/amaury-marti/

  4. i think it’s important to note that the first springfield game was against no. 1 overall pick Hochevar, who supposedly isn’t far from the majors.

any word on jon jay? i heard he injured his wrist.
