Busy night on the farm tonight, Springfield had a double header. J-Rod’s bat is heating up quickly after returning from the DL. Not very great pitching performances by the starters. On a side note, I posted the on the mock draft that happened earlier on John Sickels blog. fewgoodcards, a frequent poster here and and VEB made the Cardinal picks. He offers a full explanation on his logic on his picks. You’ll notice a lot of high schoolers, and I think this could be the year the Cards go more that route then in a long while.
Speaking of the draft, I’ll be at work all day then after work I’m heading right to the local ball stadium to watch the Swing take on the Kernels. Azruavatar will be manning the ship, liveblogging as much of the event as he possibly can. And there will be lots of discussion at VEB as well. It’ll be a busy week here for sure so be sure to check back frequently for updates.
John Rodriguez has started a new homer binge. He has went deep 4 times now in the last 3 games. He went yard twice today, and finished his having gone 3 for 4 with a walk.
Mike McCoy also went deep and doubled, and went 3 for 5. He currently has a 1.017 OPS in 41 at bats for Memphis.
Rick Ankiel went 0 for 4 with 2 K’s and a walk.
Mike Smith (AKA waste of roster space) allowed 5 runs in 4.1 innings pitched. He allowed 2 HRs.
Andy Cavazos was the only reliever not scored upon, he struck out two and didn’t allow a base runner.
Springfield 2, Corpus Christi 15
And this was only a 7 inning make up game, imagine if they played a full 9 how many Corpus would’ve scored.
Kevin Ool allowed 10 earned runs in 4 innings.
Jose Garcia wasn’t much relief, he allowed 5 earned runs in 2 innings.
Colby Rasmus went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
Mark Shorey went 2 for 3 with a double.
Sean Danielson went 2 for 4.
Game 2: Springfield 6, Corpus Christi 4
Juan Richardson won it in a walk off in the bottom of the 7th with a 3 run blast.
Joe Mather went 1 for 3 with an intentional walk. His 1 hit was a HR.
Colby Rasmus hit 2 doubles and drew 2 walks. One came in the 9th. Seriously, does he ever just get a hit for just one base? I love it.
Eric Haberer gave up 2 runs in 5 innings. He allowed 3 hits and walked 4 while striking out just 1. One of his hits allowed was a HR. He had 9 ground outs.
Matt Scherer was only able to retire one batter. He could not hold the lead, giving up a 2 run blast in the 6th.
Jason Motte pitched 1.2 innings, allowing just 1 hit and no runs while striking out 1.
Tyler Norrick went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. He walked 5 and allowed 3 hits while striking out 7. Hate those 5 walk outings.
Allen Craig and Mark Hamilton both his solo homers.
Daniel Nelson went 2 for 4 with a a strikeout and was caught stealing 2nd.
Blake King didn’t allow a hit in 3 innings pitched while striking out 6, but he allowed a run and walked 5. He also threw a wild pitch.
Brandon Dickson allowed 4 runs in 4 innings of work and allowed a run. He struck out 3 and got 6 outs via the grounder.
I know I continue to pile on Chris Grossman, but he merits it from what I’m reading in the box scores on a regular basis. He allowed 4 steals without catching a man and allowed a passed ball. He also went 0 for 3.
Brandon Buckman went 1 for 5, but the one was a 2 run homer.
Daryl Jones went 2 for 4 with a double and stole a bag.
Kenny Maiques pitched a perfect 9th en route to picking up his 13th save, striking out one and got two grounders. He’s putting up some pretty nice ratios this year with a 59% ground ball rate and is striking out 25% of the batters he’s faced.

I don’t get why they continue to trot out Kevin Ool. He needs to head back to the pen and either have Ottavino or Degerman move up to his spot in Springfield.
azru…yeah, Ool has been garbage. I think Ott will get the call up after the draft, usually things reshuffle around then
