• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 6/13/2007

Double duty tonight for Palm Beach. Be sure to check out the latest installment of Move Him On Up — I’m almost done sifting through the Cardinals current prospects before their new ones start.

Memphis 5, Nashville 6

  • Nick Stavinoha went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. When he’s healthy he hits with his AVG now up to .287
  • JRod went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks. He has a .966 OPS including a .400+ OBP. If Duncan is still hurt, maybe they should give JRod a try. . .
  • Blake Hawksworth struck out 5 in 6 innings. I like the Ks but it came at the expense of 2 HRs and 4 earned runs.
  • Troy Percival sighting. Umm, Troy, can we have a redo? Here’s his game log: Groundout, Walk, SB, Single to center, CS, Walk, SB, Walk. Yikes.
  • Mark Worrell pitched a scoreless 9th.

Springfield 2, Wichita 0

  • Me Joe Mather. Me smash ball. Me go 2-for-4. Me hit double and HR. (Note: I’m sure Joe is a very nice, well spoken individual in real life. In my head, he’s a 10 foot giant that eats babies.) He’s leading the Texas League with 18 HRs.
  • Bryan Anderson went 2-for-4.
  • Eric Haberer threw 6.1 innings allowing 4 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3.
  • Nick Webber, Zach Zuercher and Jason Motte closed out the last 2.2 innings with Motte picking up his 3rd save while striking out 2.

Palm Beach 2, Jupiter 6 (Game 1)

  • Jose Martinez went 2-for-2 with a double.
  • Mark Hamilton went 1-for-4 with a HR.
  • Tyler Norrick threw 6 innings for the complete game loss. He struck out 5 against 4 walks and 6 hits including a HR.

Palm Beach 1, Jupiter 0 (Game 2)

  • A J Van Slyke and Brandon Yarbrough went 2-for-3 each with Van Slyke picking up the only RBI in the game.
  • Robert Ransom (I have no idea who this is) threw 4 uneventful innings.
  • Luke Gregerson pitched 2 innings striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits for his 14th save. He recorded the other 4 outs on the ground.

Quad Cities 2, Wisconsin 5

  • When Goold spoke to Luhnow after the draft, he said, “You can never have too many shortstops.” Well, that applies for catchers too. The Cardinals catchers have had some serious issues holding runners. . .well not anymore. Wilmer Alvarado threw out 4 batters while catching last night. He also went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. PLEASE KEEP HIM AT CATCHER. Hitters at premium defensive positions have more value and the Swing have time to find out if Alvarado can stick there.
  • Jaime Landin went 0-for-2 with 2 BBs.
  • Luke Gorsett went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Elvis Hernandez had a bumpy start. He walked 3, gave up 2 hits (1 HR) and struck out 4 in 3 innings while allowing 3 ER. He also had a wild pitch, hit a batter and a balk.
  • PJ Walters continues to shine. He struck out 5 in 3.1IP against 0 walks, 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned). I love typing 0 walks. 0 walks. 0 walks. and 5 strikeouts. Just gives me the shivers.

  1. There’s an article about Ransom over at scout.com- apparently he’s an ex-cubs prospect out of vanderbilt, 23rd round draft pick in 2003 as a junior. He had labrum surgery in his sophomore year of college, came back and pitched well (made it to AA in ‘04 and went 6-2, 2.35 ERA, 54K in 88IP) but then hurt his shoulder and had to have labrum surgery again, and then a second surgery to clean up scar tissue. The cubs released him and we signed him as a minor league free agent. He was in extended spring training until 10 Jun.

  2. need to make a bit of a correction to what I said above- Ransom did make it to AA in ‘04, but only pitched 3.1 innings there. The rest was at A/A+ levels. here’s a link to his stats page:
