It’s official. Huzzah, another mediocre starter. That’s ok, it beats a mediocre reliever trying to be starter. That’s the good news, I suppose. The bad news is it cost the Cardinals a prospect, but I would venture to say it was a C level type talent. If that’s the case, I won’t be too upset. No, I don’t think it will be Joe Mather. I’ll keep you posted and have a reaction later.

If they got him for a middle reliever, I’d be ok with that. Maroth is pitching in the DH league against better teams. He’s a better back of the rotation bet than Ohka and he’s not a FA until ‘09 i believe.
Hooray, nothing like having more walks than strikeouts.
I seriously would have rather signed John Thomson who the Jays also recently released. (I think John is better than Tomo too.)
Because this is my stat I always use, Maroth’s xFIP the past few years:
2007: 5.75 (awful) 78.3 IP
2006: 5.48 (awful) 53.7 IP
2005: 4.65 (acceptable) 209 IP
2004: 5.01 (bad) 217 IP
