• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

7/15/07 Daily Prospect Report

Wilmer Alvarado was sent down to Johnson City. Brad Furnish was promoted to Palm Beach. And as I’m sure most of you all noticed tonight, Brendan Ryan was recalled to the bigs.

[updated 1:35, 7/16] Per the Swing’s site, Clay Mortensen is going to take Furnish’s place in the Swing’s rotation. Hat tip, Whiteyball.

Tough break for Allen Craig. He was just going to be promoted to Springfield, now he’s on the DL with lower back issues. His return is unclear at this time. Jon Jay also has been placed on the DL, his shoulder is acting up again.

Kary Booher has the story of Kyle McClellan’s return from Tommy John. I knew he was from St. Louis, but didn’t know he played at Hazelwood West. Like seeing the locals in the system thriving. McClellan has been impressive to say the least coming out of the bullpen, between Palm Beach and Springfield he’s struck out 36 in 39.1 innings, walking just 7. He also has over a 55% ground ball rate.

And on to the daily report…

Memphis 1, Nashville 2

  • Anthony Reyes bounced back from his last start, pitching 6 innings of 2 hit ball. He surrendered 1 run while striking out 8 and walking 2. He only threw 86 pitches.
  • Mark Worrell couldn’t hold the tie, allowing a run on 5 hits over 1.2.
  • Edgar Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with a double.

Springfield 3, Tulsa 2

  • Just as I saw it’s a slow news day, I see in the box score that Colby Rasmus was pulled from the game without getting an at official at bat, and he was hit by a pitch. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. I’ll let you know when I know something, I’m sure Kary Booher will have the scoop tomorrow AM. Scary. UPDATE Per Kary Booher, he was beaned in the head but taken out for precautionary measures. Colby said he’s fine and watched most of the game in the dugout. *Sigh of relief*
  • Eric Haberer went 7 strong, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 4 and got 12 ground outs.
  • Jason Motte allowed a hit and struck out 2 over an inning.
  • Chris Perez hit a batter, but didn’t allow a hit or a walk and struck out 2 in route to his 24th save.
  • Mark Shorey and Jose Martinez both drew 2 walks apiece.

Palm Beach 6, Lakeland 0

Swing 5, Peoria 6

  • Christian Reyes went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.
  • Tim Dorn struck out three times. He’s hitting just .196 so far.
  • Daryl Jones went 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts and a throwing error in RF.
  • Playing catcher, Steve Hill went 2 for 3 with a walk. He also threw out a would be base stealer. Nice to see he can handle himself behind the plate as well as at it.
  • Brandon Dickson was his own worst enemy, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and 5 walks.

Batavia 0, Oneonta 6

  • The offense was NO HIT by Guillermo Moscoso of the Tigers. Edit: It wasn’t just a no hitter, Moscoso threw a perfect game.
  • Walkmaster Blake King walked 4 in 3 innings, striking out 5 and allowed 2 hits.
  • Jesse Todd wasn’t quite his normal self, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk, striking out 1 in 3 innings.

Johnson City 2, Burlington 8

  • Tyler Leach needs to go back to the DL, or something. He surrendered 5 runs (4 earned) on 2 walks and 4 hits, including a homer.
  • In 5 innings pitched, Brian Broderick allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out 2 and also allowing a HR.
  • Travis Mitchell went 3 for 4 with a 2 steals.
  • Beau Riportella tripled.

A postponed game got postponed again for the GCL Cardinals, but that was the 2nd game that was in line for a double header, they did get in one game.

GCL Cards 2, GCL Nats 3

  • Edgar Lara hit his 5th homer of the season, he went 2 for 3 overall for the game.
  • Mike Blazek allowed 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. One of those hits was a homer.

  1. Listening to the radio broadcast of the game, the announcer said he got hit on the helmet with a curveball. Taken out of the game for precautionary reasons and said he looked OK to him.

  2. The Muckdogs weren’t just no-hit. It was a perfect game!!!! Their offense appears to be rather putrid now that guys like Cruz, Derba, and Hill have been promoted to QC.

  3. jdk82…thanks for the info. good to know it wasn’t serious at all.

  4. Clayton Mortenson will take Furnish’s spot for the Swing.
