• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 8/3/07

Baseball America had their Double A tool winners out: Best Power - Joe Mather, Best Defensive Outfielder - Colby Rasmus, Best Outfield Arm - Rasmus, Most Exciting Player - Rasmus, Best Manager Prospect - Pop Warner. It is a nice sight to see Rasmus praised with his defense but there’s not really a whole lot of context for it with these surveys. [Azru edit] Art catches my ommission in the comments - Chris Perez was named the best reliever in the Texas League.

[erik edit]-Oliver Marmol was moved up to the Quad Cities from Batavia.

Let’s do this Daily Prospect Report.

Memphis 3, Tacoma 4

Springfield 10, Tulsa 11

  • Jose Martinez went 2-for-5 with a HR from the leadoff spot.
  • Colby Rasmus went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.
  • Bryan Anderson went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Juan Lucena went 3-for-5 with a double and a HR.
  • Mark Hamilton also collected 3 hits.
  • 4 errors allowed 6 unearned runs.
  • Mitchell Boggs went 5 innings allowing 7 runs (1 ER). His line looks bad but when your fielders can’t convert outs it makes for some long innings.
  • Tyler Johnson threw a perfect innings striking out 1.

Palm Beach 2, St. Lucie 4

  • Brandon Yarbrough went 2-for-3.
  • The offense totaled 4 hits including a double and 1 walk.
  • Adam Ottavino went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 walks for 4 ER. He left with the bases loaded and Jon Mikrut relieved him and allowed 2 of 3 runners to score.
  • Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect inning.

Quad Cities 11, West Michigan 5

  • Steve Hill went 3-for-4 with a walk.
  • Christian Reyes went 4-for-5 with a HR as the DH.
  • Nick Derba went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Tyler Herron only lasted 4.2 innings and struck out just 1 batter while allowing 4 runs (3 earned).
  • Michael Schellinger picked up the win allowing 1 run in 2.1 innings while striking out 3.

Batavia 10, Jamestown 3

  • Tyler Henley went 2-for-2 leading off.
  • David Carpenter went 3-for-5 as the catcher.
  • RF Mateo Marquez went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
  • Jonathan Stambaugh was excellent going 4 innings allowing just an unearned run on 5 hits and 1 BB while striking out 3.
  • Davis Bilardello struck out 2 in a hitless 8th.

Johnson City 3, Burlington 12

  • Peter Kozma went 1-for-4 with a double.
  • 2B Mike Folli went 2-for-3 with a triple, HR and a walk.
  • Jonathan Edwards went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
  • Jose Mateo imploded on the mound allowing 7 runs in 1.2 innings.
  • Joel Pichardo allowed 1 hit in 3.1 scoreless innings.

  1. Hey, wasn’t Chris Perez “best reliever in TL ” per Baseball america ?
You missed him ! Azruavatar !!

  2. Might Mather be in St Louis next year?

  3. Mather’s a long shot to be in St. Louis if only because he’s behind Rick Ankiel on the depth chart + the glut of outfielders we already have in the majors.

  4. 3 multi-hit games in a row for Mather, and he’s hit safely in 9 of his last 10- looks like he’s finally made the adjustment to AAA.

  5. i don’t know if i would really consider mather behind ankiel on the depth chart. the way i look at it, ankiel and schumaker will be battling each other as the lefty reserve outfielder. you know duncan is a given, and if jimmy doesn’t retire he will be on the team. all 4 of those guys hit lefthanded, and assuming TLR is back, there is room for 3 tops. encarnacion remains the question mark. i think he will be back, but you never know what will happen. he would be one of the righty outfielders. mather factors in as a righthanded bat off the bench. his competition will be ludwick and anyone else they sign to compete for that role.

    outfield shake down

    starters
    LF Duncan
    CF Edmonds
    RF Encarnacion

    bench battle
schumaker and ankiel battle for back up CF and lefty bat off bench
ludwick and mather battle for righty outfield bat

obviously this leaves no pure platoon guy for edmonds like taguchi is now unless ludwick or mather can handle center or you slide juan over for those games.

  6. I think they move Encar for nothing and play Ankiel everyday in RF in ‘08, but maybe I’m just nuts.
