• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

8/11/07 Daily Prospect Report

Kary Booher talks about the logjam of outfielders in Springfield, and the logjam of outfielders in the system period. Don’t be shocked if the Cardinals lose Cody Haerther to the rule V draft. Joe Mather is also turning a minor league free agent this year, presenting another issue.

Kenny Maiques tied the Swing record for saves last night with his 26th. I’m kinda wondering why he’s still in low A.

The Swing are ditching the baby blues and saxophones and are looking for a new identity. I’m for the Quad City Quadrupeds. Quad City Quetzals? They used to be called the River Bandits, not a big fan of that. The Swing is a pretty weird name. Whatever they come up with, it won’t be half as good as the Brevard County Manatees. Or Batavia Muckdogs. Or Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. I’m kinda liking Quad City River Otters, as the UHL isn’t using it anymore. But I’m kinda weird. Whatever the name is, it has to be odd.

The GCL teams were rained out. Steve Hill goes boom. Jose Martinez goes yard for the 3rd time in 4 games, and now has 4 homers this month. Pete Kozma is finding his stroke. Osvaldo Morales makes an impressive debut for Johnson City. Step right up folks, get your Daily Prospect Report!

Memphis 7, Omaha 5

Springfield 5, Corpus Christi 13

Palm Beach 0, Tampa 6

Quad Cities 3, Fort Wayne 2

Batavia 6, Vermont 3

Johnson City 3, Princeton 1 11 innings

  • Osvaldo Morales went 2 for 4 with a homer. The homer was a 2 run shot that gave JC the lead in extras. For the GCL team, Morales hit .292/.380/546, tied for 2nd in HRs with 8 in 130 at bats.
  • Peter Kozma went 3 for 5.
  • Jonathan Edwards went 0 for 5 with 3 k’s.
  • Joseph Hage went 2 for 5 with 3 k’s.
  • Mark Diapoules allowed 1 run on a 2 hits and a walk, striking out 8 over 5 IP.
  • Andres Rosales allowed no hits on 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 8 over 5 IP.

  1. Isn’t Haerther on the 40-man roster? Do you think he’ll be taken off? I’d be very disappointed if he were claimed by another team, I think he’d definitely stick with the Royals or Pirates all year. Might even get hurt again, and be protected on the DL. Always liked Cody… Daryl Jones is really heating up, does he start at Palm Beach next year? … Any idea what’s going on with Shane Robinson? I can’t remember how long he was supposed to be out, but I haven’t heard his name in a while… 3 days on the Kyle Russell watch =) =(

  2. Haerther is a completely redundant part in the Cardinals system with Chris Duncan in LF. He’s not someone the team needs to worry about.

I’d leave Jones at Quad Cities. He still isn’t there offensively and I’d hate to throw him into a pitchers league when he isn’t ready.

  3. Does anyone have an update on Jaime Garcia? How much longer is he going to be out?

  4. I would hate to lose Haerther. Maybe Duncan can be traded for a SP if we brought up Haerther/Mather/Stavinoha to platoon with Ryan.

  5. Ryan LUDWICK that is!

  6. mather would be a free agent, but you would think they would be adding him to the 40 man

as for jones not being ready for a pitcher’s league, the midwest league is arguably more of a pitcher’s league than the florida state league. he may not be ready to move up, but i wouldn’t use the FSL being a pitcher’s league as the reason.

  7. cvb..last i heard, jaime will be out the rest of the season.

paul…i’m not sure how you part with duncan. he’s the best hitter this team has aside from pujols, the offense is pretty sunk without him. i don’t think i’d gamble that haerther/stav/mather could replace him.

and i think jones has to probably come up if he can finish the season strong. he may not be ready, but holding a player at one level for nearly three seasons doesn’t seem good. i don’t know what the best outcome is there. hopefully, he’ll start figuring it out quick because his prospect status has taken a rather big hit this year.
