IT’S THURSDAY! MEET THE SWING DAY! Meet Oliver Marmol. (What? You were expecting a good prospect?)
What is your favorite meal?
Seafood!
Ugh - I hate seafood. I also dislike: pasta (except for spaghetti), vegetables, tomatoes and BBQ.
What is your favorite TV show?
Everybody Loves Raymond.
I think that Raymond is the most over-rated comedy of the last two decades. I don’t understand the allure. Best comedy of the last two decades: Seinfeld.
What secret talent do you have that people might find surprising?
I’m a stud on the piano!
I had to take 10 years of piano lessons. I haven’t touched a piano in the last 5 years. It’s kinda sad especially considering how much those lessons cost.
Springfield likes the long ball. (That’s what she said.) Eddie Degerman twirls a gem. A-ball closers stay on top of their game in this edition of the one, the only Daily Prospect Report.
Memphis 0, Alberquerque 10 (8 innings)
- Why couldn’t this have gotten rained out?
- Edgar Gonzalez goes 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Tragically, that was Memphis’s best offensive box score of the game.
- Chris Lambert imploded for 5 runs.
- Mark Worrell threw 0.0 innings facing 0 batters. (He warmed up, rain delay, they sat him back down.)
- Andy Cavazos threw 2.0 innings allowing 1 BB and struck out 3.
- Mike Venafro imploded for 5 runs.
- Brian Falkenborg threw 0.0 innings facing 0 batters. (Game was called after 8 innings.)
- Jose Martinez went yard and drew a walk.
- Amaury Cazana Marti impregnated every woman in a 2-mile radius and hit a HR. (Keep your women locked up at night Springfield.)
- Bryan Anderson went 0-for-4. He’s really been awful the last two months. The Ks are up, the walks are down and he isn’t hitting for any power at all.
- Mark Hamilton went deep.
- Cory Rauschenberger went 6 innings striking out 7. He allowed 3 hits and walked.
- Palm Beach eeked this one out with some timely hitting considering they only had 1 extra-base hit (Mark Shorey, double) and one walk (Jim Rapoport).
- Eddie Degerman was very good tonight. A little wild, but very good. He went 7.1 innings allowing just 1 hit and 3 BBs but struck out 9. You could hope for a few more ground balls (5-10 GO-AO) but that’s really quibbling with an outing like this.
- Luke Gregerson picked up save number 25 with a perfect 9th striking out 2.
Quad Cities 3, Clinton 2 (Game 1: 8 innings)
- Christian Reyes and Jose Ramirez both went deep. Reyes had a 2-run shot in the 2nd and Ramirez had the game winner in the 8th inning.
- Brandon Dickson threw 4 innings allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits and 1 BB while striking out 4.
- Kyle Mura picked up the win with 2 innings allowing 2 hits a striking out 1.
- Kenny Maiques continue to move up in the record books with save 30. I’d really like to see him jump to Springfield next year. I’m just not sure that Palm Beach is going to tell us anything about a 1-inning reliever that we don’t already know from Quad Cities.
Quad Cities 7, Clinton 3 (Game 2: 7 innings)
- Tyler Henley went 1-for-3 with a HR and 4 RBI.
- Steve Hill was behind the plate tonight and went 1-for-4. More importantly perhaps, the only stolen base attempt ended in a CS for Clinton.
- Shaun Garceau had a messing stat line tonight. In 5.1 innings he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and 4 BBs while striking out 3. 2 of those runners were bequeathed runners that came around to score.
- 3B Andrew Brown went 2-for-4.
- 1B Charlie Pelt went 2-for-3 with a HR and a BB.
- Brian Broderick threw 3.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 5.
- Justin Fiske threw 3.1 scoreless innings walking 1 batter against 3 Ks.
Johnson City had the night off.
GCL Cardinals had the night off.

You hate BBQ!?! I didn’t think that was possible.
Anyway, what are the chances we see a Gregerson/Maiques combo at the back end of the Springfield bullpen next year?
Grant is right..how can you hate BBQ??? have you ever had good bbq? i’m not talking nasty, cheap sauced up meat that’s been sitting in a crock pot all day. I’m talking hickory smoked bbq ribs that have been slow cooked for like 8 hours, the kind that fall off the bone, that don’t even need any sauce. i don’t think you’ve ever had real barbecue. that saddens me. you redeems yourself by telling it like it is about Raymond. I hate that stupid show. Give me Seinfeld any day over Raymond, even the first season.
I don’t get the Raymond thing either.
Ray does something stupid. Wife gets mad, will not talk to Ray. Dopey brother comes over. Parents come over. Wife forgives Ray, but makes snarky comment to show she is still in charge.
Repeat 140 times.
TV gold.
Anyway, good to see Degerman turning it around. Hopefully Dave Duncan isn’t around when/if Degerman puts himself in a position to be on the big club.
Jose Martinez goes opposite field with his home run, which, I find impressive. Had to check to make sure Marti wasn’t at the plate instead.
Why do TV wives marry down, Ray Ramono, Jim Belushi, Kevin James, Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, all hot wives. It drives me crazy. There is just no way those women would marry those men. But, add a ridiculously good looking wife to a goofy cast and somehow you have found yourself a hit.
Q-You think Ray’s wife is hot? Yick.
I think Ray’s wife is very hot. However, you’re right the show is very average. Seinfeld and The Simpsons are King.
Good to see Degerman put up that line. Great to see Martinez keep hitting. He is quickly becoming my favorite prospect.
“I also dislike: pasta (except for spaghetti), vegetables, tomatoes and BBQ.”
Wow, azru, what do you eat? Ballpark food every day? Hot Dogs, burgers, fries, pizza..maybe some chicken every now and then (as long as it’s fried)?
How’s the cholesterol?
You can’t say you hate BBQ unless you’ve tried Arthur Bryant’s.
