Game time is 7:05.

One could look at Rabblerouser’s 1st half/2nd half splits and argue he had quite a turnaround. Before the All Star break, Runamucker had a yeasty 5.71 ERA. In the 2nd half, a 3.72 ERA. But under the surface, not much changed-
- K/9 1st half-4.93. K/9 2nd half-4.92.
- BB/9 1st-3.38. 2nd 3.24.
- HR/9 1st 1.42. 2nd .60.
- WHIP 1st 1.56. 2nd 1.52.
Those #’s will have to do on the fly, there’s better ways to skin the cat and I’m not a big fan of WHIP but just trying to give you the gist that it doesn’t look like the Roflwiffler didn’t change his stripes, other then he started going from have bad LOB% luck to good LOB% luck, and having less of his fly balls turning into homers.
Expect a different lineup from Pop Warner tonight, one likely without Mark Hamilton and Cody Haerther. (And seriously, the man is the same age as Jim Edmonds. What’s with calling him Pop?) I will be out tonight, but feel free to drop on by. I don’t know what AZ is doing tonight, but he may be around. I know having a game thread is a bit ambitious for just a minor league game, no matter how big but I figure what they hey. Feel free to flip back and forth from here and VEB, if ya please.

For some daytime reading check out Chris Constancio’s article over at The Hardball Times. It’s about MLE (minor league equivalents) and he’ll be writing about them for the next few months. For those who are truly gluttons for sabermetric punishment head over to The BOOK blog where Tom Tango has several links to previous MLE discussions/work by himself and Mitchel Lichtman, former consultant for the Cardinals and creator of uber-defensive metric UZR.
I haven’t had time to wade through the stuff by tangotiger and mgl (the discussion thread is REALLY long) but I’m hoping to get around to it later tonight. A lot of it is calculating the regression coefficients for each level of the minors and explanations of how they did that but there are usually nuggets of insight hidden throughout those threads.

[Update 5:20] Here’s the lineups. Haerther sitting verses the lefty, Lucena in their over Rowlett. Probably not a bad idea, both can’t hit but Lucena has a superior glove. Gambling on getting something out of GoreckiĀ is interesting, he’s got something to prove to be sure-

I wanted to check out flyball and line driver percentages for Rauschenberger but the minors version of BR doesn’t have him listed and neither did the Cube. Also I read an article at the start of the season about Pop’s nickname but I can’t find it anywhere (maybe it was a Q&A on this site even, did you guys do one with him?)
Does anyone know what kind of stuff Rauschenberger throws? I know his numbers don’t indicate a hard thrower but I think Kary Booher mentioned something about him being the opposite of Walters.
Maybe we should try Rauschenberger as a hitter
GameDay currently showing a 6-ball, 3-strike count on the batter. These minor league rules sure are different.
Replying to Phil: At least they could move Cory up in the lineup, say to 8th.
Go springfield. The big boys are getting wiped while the future is looking bright.
Hugo — check FirstInning. http://firstinning.com/players/Cory-Meacham-a/
It has the groundball percentage, which is the best available at the momemnt that I’m aware of.
Snim — His main secondary pitch is a slider which is below-average stuff-wise. There was talk of Adam Daniels working on their sliders earlier in the season right before Cory rattled off a few good games. His other complimentary pitches are of the “show me” variety (i.e. they aren’t out pitches but used to keep a hitter honest from time to time).
