• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

  1. With springers signing, I was wondering what everyone thinks about how it affects Perez. I have a felling that they are concerned about his control and expect to keep him in Memphis for next year.

  2. I suspect he’ll be up and down, similar to Cate (with hopefully more time/success at the major league level). I also believe they’ll convert Franklin to starter and try to resign Percival for the 8th (or just put that faith in the afore-mentioned Springer). Just a hunch.

  3. With Percival talking like he’s Roger Clemens and saying he may only play half the year, I don’t expect him to be back in Cardinal red. It was a nice run, but I think if he’s going to play all year, he’s more likely to do that on the West Coast.

As for Perez, I was guessing control was going to keep him in the minors for a while yet as well. I’d rather he stay down there until he is ready than moving back and forth. I’m not sure that’s good for a pitcher.

‘Course, his role also may depend on who the GM/managers are. If Tony’s back, there’s a strong chance he won’t get as much ML time as maybe a youth-oriented manager might give him.

  4. The Springer signing I really liked. The guy plain performed especially against RH hitters. He struck out a guy an inning. I think his signing won’t effect Perez as much as Kinney coming back. Kinney coming back will replace Percival. I am not expecting Percival to come back to the Cardinal Red. Perez is Izzy’s replacement. I think that the plan for Perez regardless of anything is to have him start in AAA…get called up midway through the season to get some seasoning…start 09 as closer. If you look at the path of the prominant relief prospects they generally don’t get sent up and down, especially guys keyed for the closer role. I would expect him to get called up midway to take advantage of Izzy’s ability to relate and mentor young pitchers. If you look at the guys that Kinney and Wainright attributed alot of their success to wasn’t Duncan, but Izzy. I don’t think you’ll see Franklin as a starter, solid 8th inning guys are too valuable. Springer excelled as the 6th/7th inning guy and 8th inning guy when Franklin wasn’t available. I believe you’ll see guys of the Falkenberg elk be the guys that would step onto the MLB squad if there is an injury. Perez will be in the MLB before season end, as long as he performs. I do see the value of having Perez up all year, but you can’t afford for him to start out up there and struggle. The Cards are absolutely counting on him to be their closer in 09, Izzy’s option was just picked up not extended, so there is no need to rush him up there in 08 without having extended success in AAA.
