• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

DPR 10/30/07-When Cardinals Clash

Derrick Goold looks at what the Renteria trade teaches us. The gist-the Cardinals don’t have prospects they could sanely trade for a player of Renteria’s caliber, and they don’t have a position player to trade to build depth in the farm. I agree with DG. He also lists his top “climbers” in the Cardinal system as he’s working on putting together his Top 30 list for Baseball America. Boggs tops the list, along with Hamilton, Furnish, Parisi (what is everyone’s fascination with Parisi?), Hoffpauir, Mather, McClellan, Walters, and Ingram. Take Parisi off the list and replace him with Jose Martinez and you have yourself a list.

David Eckstein and others file for free agency. Percival and Eck are Type B free agents, so the Birds will get two picks in the lower end of the supplemental round assuming both are offered salary arbitration and they decline. With free agency starting, you can also say goodbye to Chris Narveson, which kind of stinks because I would’ve like to see him get his career going in St. Louis. Maybe he’ll return.

Team USA 10, Mesa 2

  • Mitch Boggs was brilliant over 4 innings, striking out 4 and giving up just a walk and one hit, a double against Colby Rasmus.
  • Luke Gregerson took the place of Kyle McClellan on the Mesa roster. He came on in relief of Boggs and recorded just one out and gave up 4 runs on a walk and 3 hits, including a 2 run homer.
  • Colby Rasmus doubled twice and walked.
  • Jason Motte allowed a run on 2 ground ball singles and a walk while fanning 1.
  • Jarrett Hoffpauir walked twice and grounded into a DP. Oh, and he stole home. I’m looking forward to hearing the story on how all that came about.
  • Amaury Marti went 1 for 4 with 2 K’s.
  • Mark Hamilton went 1 for 3. His one hit was a 2 out RBI.

  1. Is the listing for type A and B free agents out yet or is this just your guess? I thought for sure Eck would be type A. Also, whether type A or B the picks for them are not automatic. We only get them if we offer them arbitration and they decline and they are signed by another team (not a guuaranteeded thing in Perival’s case.)

  2. CC-yeah, i know. if you click on the link, you will see it is not my guess but what Matthew Leach @ MLB.com wrote. I am just assuming they will offer both arbi. I edited it so others don’t get confused. I can’t say it would be bad if both accept, I like Percival and the SS market is thin. Both players for another year wouldn’t be bad to have around, considering the alternatives, but I’d rather have the draft picks.

  3. Ok Elias ratings are out and I’m an idiot. Eckstein’s a B and it wasn’t even close.

  4. Why take Parisi off the list?? He has a lot more talent and potential than people give him credit for.

  5. You say take Parisi off the list (”what is everyone’s fascination with Parisi?”) I heard an interview with “hammer” the memphis manager. In this interview he said, Parisi is the closest to the bigleagues. why is that so far off the mark.

  6. The data doesn’t substantiate the managers assessment, imo. he had a 4.91 ERA, not far off from his fielding independent # of 5.17. he allowed a .465 slugging % against, and a .299 average. he doesn’t have a very good strikeout rate which bodes for a short career and he walks a batter too many. he just doesn’t strike me as a future big league starter, maybe as a reliever i could see him being decent.
