Tony Cruz and Steve Hill will either follow the path of Albert (unlikely) or Stavinoha who will get his legs and be great trade bait by this time next year. JDod is not so far out on a limb. But I think even the scouts and execs are surprised by how guys actually perform as they move up the ladder. They gave us the heads-up on Martinez, which is one reason I'm enthusiastic about him as a prospect -- the scouting reports and performance have mostly matched up. The downside is that they aren't going to give us any bad news -- the guys who disappointed them after they were signed, or the ones they scouted and could have signed who went on to stardom in other orgs. The only way to sort it out is to wait for the performance data, which is kind of like waiting for Christmas when you're a kid. No matter how great it is, there's always going to be something you wanted and didn't get. Good points, Easy. It would also be interesting to get some detailed opinions from Luhnow or other insiders about a bunch of the young Latin players that they've signed over the last two years. Lara, De la Cruz, Romulo Ruiz et al have all perked my interest and it could make for good Hot Stove talk in January or some time to gather as much information and opinion about them as possible. He's a small guy (listed at 5'9",170), but started showing some power in the fall instructional league. At 19, he had a .325 BA in rookie ball, with plate discipline (.430 OBP, 19 BB, 15 K) and speed (17 SB, 5 CS). I think I read somewhere that he can handle center field. With the usual sample-size caution flags, we could have a five-tool player here.
