Not to make this confusing, but this was the thread for #22. Then Barton came along, and now this is the thread for #23. If you already voted for #22, then you need not vote again, unless that is you voted for Barton. Thanks!
My gut is this is about right, but I think Kozma deserves to be in the top 10, but this is about your votes, not mine. There are real concerns about Barton’s age and knee injury, but when healthy he’s a five tool talent that many going into the previous season had pretty high on their lists. Here he received 6 votes for 8, 5 for 9, and a bunch else all over the board, 2 for as high as 5 while a six of you thought he doesn’t belong in the top 10.
Here’s Barton’s reaction about joining the Cards:
“Being left off the (Cleveland) roster was a little disappointing, but at the same time I had to understand that certain teams have certain needs,” Barton said. “It’s a business and that’s the way you have to treat it. Everything’s been good health-wise—it was just a little cleanup. I just felt like I’d be a better asset to a team if I was 100 percent healthy, so we went in and had the surgery. It was in the best interest for me and the team. I thought the team would be the Indians, but I’m happy to be a Cardinal now and I plan on making the most of this opportunity.”
I wonder if he’ll bring his pet turtle to spring training.
And here’s Kevin Goldstein’s 2 cents-
Some people saw Barton as a possible number one pick, but he does have some health concerns, as there are whispers that a recent knee surgery was not entirely successful, and that he might be permanently affected by the injury. Unsigned out of college—most expected him to take a high-paying job at Boeing with his aerospace engineering degree—Barton is a career .317/.417/.476 hitter who does many things well, but few things very well.
Chances To Stick: Excellent. Provided he’s healthy, Barton has everything it takes to be a solid fourth outfielder immediately. If it doesn’t work out, you can always hire him to work in the front office, as he’s pretty much the smartest player on every team he’s ever been on.
Also, feel free to sign up for a free gravatar. It’s a pretty neat little feature, I’m getting tired of blank faces along with AZ’s VEB logo and my old Louisville Redbird logo. Let’s see some of you express your personality a bit. The link is here.

McClellan
Bo Hart. Just kidding - I’ll vote for Kyle McClellan.
Cody Haerther
McClellan is next up on my list
McCormick is my vote……
And why no discussion on Donovan Solano? The kid may not be hitting but he is also not striking out. Its easier to teach contact than plate discipline. He does not get nearly enough credit for this. Heck the kid had the lowest K% in the Midwest league last year and if he had enough ABs at Palm Beach he would’ve been in 11th in the league. He should definitely be on more people’s radar, especially considering he is only now just about to turn 20.
mcclellan
erik, have you come across information since you made your list that has made you higher on mcclellan? was it the 40 man? or …?
McClellan, oh and Taguchi was officially released so his spot is open now.
Mclellan, oh we have hooker at 20 an brian at the Birdhousehas him at 34,woops!!!!!
Norrick
Ingram again. Limited performance data, but when people invoke Kirby Puckett to describe his upside, he has to be one of our top two dozen prospects.
Tony Cruz again, probably Hill tomorrow, I’ll just keep alternating them maybe slide in Derba
Barton
McCormick AND Jones should have been much higher - democracy sucks!!!
For clarity, this vote is for McCormick
Barton should actually be higher on this list
I’ll stick with my Arnoldi Cruz selection.
I’ll go with the peer pressure and go with McClellan, but where does Barton fit into the picture now. I would have to say top 5-7.
I’ve been voting fro him for a few spots now so…
McClellan
Honestly I don’t see a whole lot of difference between McClellan, Motte and Maiques. I don’t know why the other two were voted so much higher.
Brian Barton
Furnish!
I also would like people to keep Tyler Henley aka Lenny Dykstra 2.0 for the next couple selections.
Barton belongs much higher than this, so he gets my vote.
I’ll go McClellan here.
