• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

D’Angelo Jimenez signed to split contract

Not long ago when I was parsing the free agents list, D’Angelo Jimenez was one of the players I thought represented a very low-end replacement of Eckstein and had hoped the Cardinals would’ve taken a flyer on him. Well, they did. Jimenez isn’t all that much to get excited over, he’s sort of the Mark Johnson of middle infielders. He doesn’t do a lot well, but he is an OBP machine, and he has shown some pop.

Some may say “he’s blocking Jarrett Hoffpauir now”. Hoffpauir can’t play SS, Jimenez can…kinda. If anything, he’s just more competition in camp. The good news is Aaron Miles, he ain’t.

  1. Ahhhhh - An excuse to break out the old 2001 prospect handbook. Beautiful - Hell - Corey Patterson is on the cover - there’s a can’t miss prospect for you. Low risk signing - better than Delvi? Yes..

  2. I guess i just dont see the on-base machine that everyone is talking about…at least in the majors…i see .350ish which is respectable but hardly a “machine” or “tremendous” as Larry put it…maybe i am missing something.

  3. nomar–check his last year stats and the year before. a 16% walk rate is pretty darn snazzy.

  4. ah-ha i see…i should have looked a little deeper…thanks for helping me out there erik!

  5. Looks like Mr. LaRussa is calling the shots. He does not trust young players and he is getting his roster full with projects. I will be surprised if Ryan even starts at St. Louis. It looks like we are the only team that think these guys they are signing are going to be helpful. I do not think you will see the kids play much in St. Louis as long as Mr. LaRussa is running the team. If you remember he wasn’t even going to bring Pujols to St. Louis but because of the injury he was forced to. Sorry to vent but I think the people in charge don’t trust their minor league system.

  6. jeffery…i really don’t think so, if it were TLR being GM then Aaron Miles or some other empty average middle infielder would be here and not someone like Jimenez.
