I guess I'm not very high on Solano, myself. He's a great fielder, has a good contract rate. I think if Izturis can make the majors, I can't see why he couldn't. I'll think over some of the other suggestions, some of them could take some real research but are intriguing ideas. Thanks for all the great feedback, everyone. We keep hearing how all these kids are average prospects. It would be neat to find out that a guy like Russ Springer or Ryan Franklin were considered "average" prospects. I guess that goes along with what greenback06 said. I’d like to see how some current Cardinals were rated while they were prospects. We keep hearing how all these kids are average prospects. I'm guessing the attrition rate is very high and the upside is unimpressive, but that's just a guess. You could do some sort of speculative post about the 2010 Cardinals or later. For example, you could "recap" a speculative Cards/Cubs game in 2010. Give maybe a box score, lineups, etc. Obviously, you couldn't predict free agent signings or trades, but it would be fun to think about who from the farm would take over for players on the big club and what that team could look like. By: Bill http://futureredbirds.com/2008/03/16/suggestions-for-the-next-week-or-so/#comment-15084 Bill Sun, 16 Mar 2008 21:04:12 +0000 http://futureredbirds.wordpress.com/?p=1009#comment-15084 OK, here are a couple of ideas: * I'd like to know more about who's going to be working with these kids. Info on the farm managers and coaches, and also batting and pitching instructors and (particularly) medical people, would be interesting. How did they get where they are? Who are their success stories? Anything to watch out for? * Some info on Rule 5 eligibility would be interesting. Who's going to be exposed to the major- or minor-league Rule 5 drafts if they're not on next year's 40-man or AAA rosters, respectively? That's a thing to keep track of, as it will affect some of the moves made during the season. * "Where are they now" on ex-prospects. Has Chris Narveson come up for air yet? I think I know what's going on with Daric Barton (grrrr...), but are any other former farm hands making names for themselves this spring? * Is there any interesting talent left lying around unsigned from the Venezuelan league and other off-season leagues? Just some ideas.... OK, here are a couple of ideas:
