Aaron Crow was simply amazing throwing 87 of 107 pitches for strikes, and there still isn’t a pitcher who can slow down Gordon Beckham. Check out some of the new names appearing on the wrap-up after the break.

FGC, do you know which college pitchers have great sink on their ball? Unfortunately collegesplits isn’t back up yet for the public. So just trying to see if there might be top pitchers that could have a GO/AO of 2 or greater.
If Crow really threw 107 pitches this early in the season then the head coach should be fired. What’s it going to be a month from now 150 pitches. That’s irresponsible.
Top college pitchers routinely through at least 100 pitches a game. In Crow’s two previous starts he threw 114 and 110 pitches.
they also get an extra two days off every week, so i don’t really think 107 pitches is a big deal. its really not that early in the season either, they are about a third of the way through.
as for guys with sink on their fastball, i do know that putnam is a sinkerballer, but i’m not sure on other guys yet.
For some who dont follow the college ranks closely, maybe giving them MLB comps would help them?
Being the pitching lover that I am…here is how I see a couple of the guys Few listed.
Crow to me Ian Snell (w/ better pure stuff)
Matusz is Cole Hamels
Friedrich is Barry Zito
Lynn is Brad Penny
Putnam is Jake Peavey
Now those are my simplistic comps…probably different then most….but sometimes its easier when you have a MLB comp to reference…when talking about a player.
i know you make that comp b/c of their fastballs and deliveries, but putnam will never be anywhere close to as good as peavey. i think it is probably good to remind people that sometimes these comps are what people look like and not always the kind of stats they will put up.
another comp i think is close for crow in terms of stuff and not so much delivery is tim lincecum. they both throw mid-90’s gas with hard breaking balls.
