• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Farm Report 6/1/08

The United Baseball Blogger Mock Draft trudges on, and against my better judgment I took Ryan Perry 39th overall. It’s not that I hate Perry, I just hate him as the 13th pick. And I’m also trying to pick as I think the Cardinals would pick, not necessarily how I would pick. Looking at this video, he reminds me a bit of Jess Todd, but with more velocity. Looking at his delivery, it’s also hard for me to see his future anywhere but the bullpen.

I’m sure most of you heard by now that Mark Worrell promoted to the big leagues in favor of Kelvin Jimenez, and rightly so. Worrell is the 7th player to make his major league debut this season. I’m excited the system is becoming a bigger pipeline for the major league system, and it’s not like this is happening as a last resort. Mather and Worrell have earned their place in the show, and on a winning team at that. Worrell has struck out 36% of the batters he faced in Memphis, and I think he fits well in a La Russa bullpen where he can dispatch him especially against RHB.

Memphis 1, Albuquerque 6

  • Another multi-hit game by Colby Rasmus. He went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. All is right in the world again.
  • Chris Duncan doubled and had a HBP. It feels really weird commenting about him here.
  • Nick Stavinoha went 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Bullpen game tonight. Hugo Castellanos had the ugly line of 5 IP, 6 hits, 5 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 2 HR. Why they continue to try and get him multiple innings is beyond me, maybe they just don’t feel comfortable calling up Todd or Mortensen to AAA just yet. This was Hawksworth’s scheduled start.
  • Nick Webber allowed a run on a hit and a walk. Matt Scherer allowed 2 hits and a walk but managed to not let anyone score.

Springfield 1, Corpus Christi 0

  • Adam Ottavino left the game after retiring 9 of the 12 batters he faced. He walked 3, struck out 3 and allowed no hits. Nice to see him have a nice showing, but I’m baffled why he was pulled so early. I hope he’s healthy.
  • Kyle Sadlowski, Jon Mikrut, Marco Gonzalez and Fernando Salas combined for 5 scoreless innings. Salas picked up his 7th save, fanning 2.
  • Allen Craig hit a pinch hit double for the only extra base hit of the game.

Palm Beach 2, St. Lucie 0

  • Who are you, Kyle Mura? Mura allowed just 4 hits over 7.1 IP, with 6 K’s and no BB. I’ve seen Mura before when he was the set up man for QC last season, he didn’t appear to be anything special to me. He had a 87-89 fastball and a big curve. I thought he was a nifty minor league reliever and nothing really more.
  • Josh Dew struck out both batters he faced.
  • Francisco Samuel struck out 2 en route to his 8th save of the season.
  • Antonio DeJesus tripled for PB’s only extra base hit.

QC 5, Beloit 10

The VSL Cardinals had the day off.

  1. I’ll be seeing Memphis play in Albuquerque tomorrow. Anything you want me to watch for? Don’t bother telling me to watch Da Raz … got that …

  2. Wilson got shelled tonight, but he’s looked good in other appearances and it’s just nice to see his name in the box score. If he stays healthy, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2005 draft has one more pick burst onto the scene.

  3. Could you proofread the Adam Ottavino line.

Also, i know a lot of you use Firefox here. Every once in a while Future Redbirds refuses to open. It opens in IE just fine which is how im posting now. Does anyone know why or experience the same thing?

  4. I would probably picket Jeff Luhnow’s house if he passed on Brett Devall to take Ryan Perry

    Haha

  5. Exciting times for the Future Redbirds community - many of the youngsters being followed here are starting to contribute for the big league club.

Good to see the right move made sending Jimenez back down, and Worrell up.

How many options does Jimenez have left? Few, I hope?

  6. Long time reader, never a poster…. (The Truth in the FR fantasy league)

Just graduated college and my first job will be with John Deere and I’ll be living in Davenport. I don’t know many people in the area so I will be going to as many QC games as possible. I’ll offer as much insight as possible as well as some good pics/vids eventually. I’d really like to start contributing something to this fantastic site.

Oh, and if any of you would like to start making a run in the fantasy league, I’d welcome it. It’s getting pretty lonely at the top ;)

  7. hmm…whats with David DeJesus playing for PB?

  8. Here is the Pitching Mechanics Analysis for Jess Todd

  9. Should be Antonio DeJesus

  10. DSL Cardinals have played a couple of games already.

  11. The link for Memphis’ box score goes to the Quad Cities box score.

  12. poorcollegeguy, I use Firefox and the site always works for me.

  13. This from Kary Booher on why Ottavino left early

Ottavino was working on an extremely conservative pitch count as the organization hopes to get him on track after what’s been a disappointing beginning to his season.

  14. Free Fernando Salas! He’s a man among boys in Springfield. I saw him pitch once a few weeks ago, and, while trying to avoid unnecessary hyberbole, I think he could probably retire major league hitters right now. I’m not saying he would dominate or anything, and he’s definitely better off getting plenty of development time. I do think, though, that he could hold his own in the big leagues right now. He may be a little bit of a one trick pony, but it’s a really, really good trick. His curve is a little reminiscient of Takashi Saito’s, if you want a rough comparison. When he locates it, hitters just have no chance. Heck, at the very leat, I would be willing to bet he could pitch better than Kelvin Jimenez right now.

Maybe after the draft would be a good time to bump both he and Samuel up a level.

    Picklefork-
I’ll join your protest. I actually like Perry in the mid rounds somewhere, as a college closer type, but if a guy like DeVall is sitting there in the supp and they take Perry, let’s march. Immediately.

  15. Adam Ottavino was on a 65 pitch count.

  16. RE how many options does Jimenez have: A player with an option can go up and down as many times as the team wishes during a particular season. Options apply to seasons, not to individual moves.

  17. There is a great interview with Brett Lawrie and a couple of his coaches here: http://www.baseballanalysts.com/ If he makes it to pick thirteen they should take him (even with my Odorizzi obsession).

  18. Hello Error Police! Sometimes I feel like some of you come by here just to point out my flubs! Please if you could try to email me first rather than point out my mistakes in the comments. I’ve gotten better, I have. And I’m working to get better. I appreciate the feedback, but frankly it’s still a little embarrassing to have to come here and have several people pointing out my goofs. my email is eriknmanning AT gmail DOT com. Thanks!

Oh, and JDK82-That link on Todd’s mechanics doesn’t work for me.

  19. Erik and Crew,
Would you guys mind creating a 101 on player development? Explaining things like, what levels are usually for which level of players, the different types of drafts (rule 4 and rule 5), options, things like that. I could probably write most of it but it probably wouldn’t be as good as if you guys put it together. That way we can have a quick guide for the newer folks to get familiar with how the minors operate compared to the bigs.

  20. Wilson pitched two innings just fine and then fell apart in the third. Not quite sure what happened there.

  21. i just thought i would say that the college wrap-up won’t be up until tomorrow. i am waiting until all the regional games are finished.

  22. I read somewhere in my morning googling (it might have been ESPN Insider) that Aaron Hicks worked out for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium and looked FANTASTIC. Might the Cards go the Rasmus route and take a toolsy high school outfielder with a plus arm as its top pick? I wouldn’t quibble with that.

  23. Brett Lawrie sounds like he is ready for Busch Stadium right now.

    Geez…the kid is a manchild.

  24. Anyone have Eric’s email address, I cant seem to find it. Thanks.

  25. I realized after i posted that that i sounded a bit like an a$$. Sorry for that. I dont come here looking for mistakes, i come here for the great content. You guys do a great job.
