Colby Rasmus churned up a couple hundred words. There’s an article on the STL Cardinals main page as well as in Kevin Goldstein’s Monday Morning Ten Pack. I’ll have more on him this afternoon.
The Red Baron recaps some minor leaguers who have made it the the majors and other names you should know. (Rosales fell off the map, didn’t he?)
Quad Cities is off for the next couple of days but Pete Kozma, Charles Kingrey and Mark Diapoules will all represent the River Bandits at the Midwest League All-Star game tomorrow.
- Brian Barden was 3-for-5 with a double.
- Nick Stavinoha was 2-for-5.
- Cody Haerther was 2-for-4 with a double and a HR. He collected 5 RBIs. Haerther isn’t having a bad season but the power has all but disappeared. After posting ISO’s in the upper 100s, he’s hitting .294/.368/.360. His bat is his path to the majors so he needs a few more games like this.
- Mike Parisi was excellent for 7 innings. He needed just 84 pitches (56 strikes) while allowing just 2 earned runs. He walked 1, had 4 hits against him and struck out 6 while recording a nearly 2:1 GO:AO ratio.
- Jason Motte pitched a scoreless frame striking out 2 allowing 1 hit.
- Allen Craig was 0-for-3 with a pair of walks.
- Mark Hamilton had a big night going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
- Mark Shorey was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks.
- Tyler Greene was 2-for-5 with a HR. Greene has 62 strikeouts to 15 walks on the season.
- Jose Martinez was 3-for-5.
- Tyler Herron got the start in a must win game for the Redbirds as they attempt to take the first half title. He was shaky over 5 innings allowing 7 hits (including a HR) and 2 walks. He managed to hold the opposition to 2 ERs while striking out 2. Things just weren’t on the green though as he recorded just 2 of 13 outs on the ground.
- Justin Fiske and Josh Dew were both tagged for runs during the 7th and 8th. Luke Gregerson came on to retire 4 batters and shut the door on the Travelers. He struck out 1 and didn’t allow a hit.
- Donovan Solano was 3-for-5 with a walk and a double.
- Arnoldi “Tony” Cruz was 2-for-6 with a longball.
- Brandon Buckman, who has been a bit disappointing for me personally this year, was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
- Daryl Jones was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Brandon Dickson was good not great limiting Daytona to 3 runs over 6 innings. He allowed 8 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3.
- Kenny Mauiques took a BS in the 8th and Francisco Samuel had a rough night in the 9th and 10th allowing 2 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 3.
- In the 11th, Cardoza Tucker was betrayed by a fielding error. A single to right field advanced the runner to 3rd and he then promptly scored on a wild pitch to saddle Tucker and the Cardinals with a loss. Who picked up the win? [Edit: removed my own gaffe. Can I still use the wedding excuse? That's two errors in two days -- I'm like Aaron Miles @ short.]

I want to see a Tyler Greene challenge promotion.
The former redbird farmhand Chris Lambert is with the AAA Detroit team.
Also, isn’t Nick Addition an allstar for QC too? If not, then he was totally robbed of an award.
click on the johnson city press link under the beat heading on the right side, and you will see that niko vasquez is signed and in johnson city.
Casey Lambert picked up the win for the Daytona Cubs.
I think it’s time for the Cards to decide whether Parisi’s future is as a reliever or a starter. He seems to be dangerously close to falling into the Anthony Reyes trap.
He was doing well as a reliever with the Cards, then they ask him to start and he blew up.
Back to Memphis, told he’s going to start regularly, and his mindset is clearly better.
Thanks FGC. I’m glad to see him signed. What is interesting also is no mention of Ferrara. I guess that means he’s starting with the GCL club. I see they mentioned Zawacki as being in the rotation as well. Batavia starts tomorrow already, and JC starts the 20th.
now that we’re talking short season, I’m guessing these players will be w/Batavia
Lynn
Peterson
Gorgen (signed yet?)
Curtis
Devin Shepherd
Charles Cutler
Kulik
Fornataro
Alex Castellanos
Buursma
as well as the demoted–Tom Eager, Jose Garcia, Riportella, Andres Rosales, Doggnt Bolivar and Osvaldo Morales. Jon Edwards has to be in the mix too. Short season teams don’t really excite me a ton, but there will be some interesting players up there.
Bryon Walton has an interview with Gorgen at The Birdhouse. He plans to join Batavia next weekend.
I’m quickly becoming a big Justin Fiske fan. Even though he gave up the run, he struck out all three lefthanders he faced in the fifth 1-2-3 and got groundballs in the second inning from all the batters he pitched to but one, including one grounder he fielded from the lefthander he faced in that inning, Brian Stavisky (a player from the same high school as Josh Kinney).
He’s getting great results… Wonder if he had a little bit to do with the Cardinals apparent willingness to go with a few pitchers of smaller statures in this year’s draft.
Red Baron’s going to need to differentiate from the Columbian pitcher, Andres Rosales, and the Venezuelan male model by the same name. Damn you, internets.
Personally, I like to just meld the two together inside my head. Oh, Andres…
I’ll be seeing the Muckdogs this weekend. Hopefully, most of the guys listed will be there, as I’m very excited to see them.
Be sure to share with us your thoughts with us Eugene. And some pics or video if you get any.
“I think it’s time for the Cards to decide whether Parisi’s future is as a reliever or a starter.”
I’d be surprised if we ever saw Parisi above AAA in a Cardinals uniform again. Sad statement but he’ll be leapfrogged by guys with better stuff coming up through the system. Boggs already jumped him then there is Garcia and Mort. There will be no room in the rotation for Parisi and, with all these young arms (McClellan, Perez, Worrell as relievers) I don’t see Parisi getting a shot. Maybe as a long reliever if we’re hit with a rash of injuries (certainly not impossible). Bottom line: Parisi either has to get used to a swing roll (long relief / spot start) or he is of no use to the Cardinals.
No offense to him, but Rasmus isn’t the most grammatically eloquent, is he?
Parisi = Simontachi lite
The only thing missing is true desperation at the big league level.
Palm Beach is home to some real disappointments this year…Maiques…Descalso…Dejesus (no rbi’s in 105 ab’s???…how do you even *do* that?).
Parisi still has a shot, but not a great one and not as a starter. Next years rotation battle should be really interesting. It’ll be interesting to see if the Cards resign Loshe as if they do the only rotation opening would be if Carp isn’t ready.
So are all of our draft picks signed now? Who’s left?
erik, it was mentioned in an article when ferrara signed that he would be headed to the gcl.
Do me a favor guys and don’t put the Rasmus watch back up…ever. Thanks
It’s just about time to take Solano as seriously as Kozma, as far as a long-term possibility for MLB shortstop goes.
Just a few months older than Pete, Donovan has a good defensive rep, and is now nearly 50 points above the FSL average OPS (.746 to .702). Moreover, his strikezone management is improving month-by-month. April, a 3-1 K/BB ratio; in May, it was down to 2-1; so far in June, 9 walks and 9 whiffs.
Even better, Solano has an .810 OPS on the road (Daryl Jones has been outstanding away from that hitter’s graveyard, at .937[!]). I’m very curious to see how D.S. & D.J. perform next year at Springfield–and whether Solano continues to play primarily SS, or if the Cards slide him over to 2B.
i think its safe to say that the signing bonus wasn’t the only reason rasmus chose not to go to college…good lord man!
but hey, i’d rather be able to hit like him than be able to speak with eloquence
